Past

Over the past two decades, this practice has been shaped through experience in areas of creative design, social care, urban planning, event planning  and education. Working in diverse settings, from autism services to public engagement in planning, from gallery spaces to urbanism projects, one thing became clear: design is everywhere, but it isn’t always working in service of equity, inclusion, or sustainable regeneration.

As a practitioner, I’ve worked with people of all ages and many different abilities from navigating inaccessible systems to creating immersive experiences. I’ve facilitated creative workshops with children and young people about the spaces they want to live in. I’ve supported local councils in finding better ways to hear and hold community voices. Each experience added another layer to a bigger picture: that we need new ways of doing, building, and imagining – together. Through studies in social care, sustainability, UX, and digital arts – and most recently embarking on PhD research in the area of  participatory urbanism – the seeds of Glimro began to form.

Experience to date has led me to a place where I want to find out how we can design futures not for profit but for futures that care deeply for people and the planet. Glimro exists as a slow-growing studio that supports just transitions, systems change, and creative approaches to complex problems. It’s grounded in Irish soil, shaped by local contexts, and in dialogue with global struggles for climate justice and spatial equity. And it’s still evolving – an ongoing response to a world that urgently needs more ethical, imaginative, and care-led ways forward.
